Specifying column width automatically for Grid/Graphs

You can work with column widths and row heights in a Grid/Graph that is displayed as a grid. When a Grid/Graph with fixed column widths is reset to automatic column width, the grid in the Grid/Graph is redrawn based on the automatic mode settings. Column handles are turned off. When automatic column width is used, row height is also calculated automatically.

Prerequisites

• This procedure assumes that the document contains a Grid/Graph. For instructions to add a Grid/Graph, see Displaying reports in documents: Grid/Graphs.

• To access the column width options, the Grid/Graph must be displayed as a grid or as both a grid and a graph. (Grid options apply only to the grid portion of a Grid/Graph, not the graph part.) To specify automatic column width

1. Open the document in the Document Editor. (How?)

2. Double-click the Grid/Graph to enable edit mode. A red hashed border displays around the Grid/Graph, and the menu options and toolbar change.

   • If the Edit icon is displayed in the upper left corner of the Grid/Graph, you can click the icon to enter edit mode.

   • If the Grid/Graph is a shortcut, you cannot edit it because it is linked to the original report. A message appears, allowing you to choose whether to unlink the shortcut. If you click OK, changes made to the original report are no longer passed to the Grid/Graph in the document.

3. On the Grid menu, select Column Width, then choose Fit to Content or Fit to Window.

   • Fit to Content automatically scales each column to the width of its contents. The width of the Grid/Graph is then adjusted to fit all the columns.

   • Fit to Window automatically scales the column widths to the size of the Grid/Graph.

   You can also use the Grid Options dialog box to select these options.

4. To exit edit mode, press ESC.
