MicroStrategy ONE
Editing datasets from documents
You can change the report settings of a dataset while working in the Document Editor. When you edit a dataset in this manner, the Report Editor is invoked. Changes that you make to the dataset are not reflected in the document until you close and re-open the document. Changes that you make to an Intelligent Cube are not reflected in the document until you republish the Intelligent Cube, and close and re-open the document.
Save reports used in documents in a well-labeled location to minimize conflicts between modified reports and documents. This is because editing a dataset report affects the MicroStrategy report that the dataset is based on. Likewise, if a report used as a dataset report is edited outside of the Document Editor, those changes will affect the document. For example, if an object referenced by a document's data field is removed from the report, the data field becomes static text when the document PDF is created.
To edit a dataset from a document
-
Open a document in the Document Editor. (How?)
-
If the Datasets pane is not displayed, click Datasets at the bottom of the panel on the left. If the panel is not displayed at all, select Datasets from theViewmenu.
-
Right-click the dataset to edit and select Edit. A message displays reminding you that changes made to the dataset are not reflected in the document until you close and re-open the document. You can select Don't show this message next time to disable this message.
The Report Editor opens.
You can enable the message again by following these steps:
-
From MicroStrategy Developer, select Developer Preferences from the Tools menu.
-
In the category list on the left, expand Optional Actions.
-
Select the Warn on editing dataset/cube check box.
-
Click OK to return to MicroStrategy Developer.
-
-
Make any necessary changes, then save and close the report. You are returned to the Document Editor.
