Editing a Layout Definition File

This topic provides step-by-step instructions on editing a layout definition that is associated with a style.

Interactivity with MicroStrategy Web is enabled

Make sure you have completed the Enabling Interactivity with MicroStrategy Web step before proceeding further.

  1. Launch the Web Customization Editor.  
  2. Access the MicroStrategy Web page that uses the style for which you wish to edit the layout definition file.  
  3. Right-click the content page section and select Edit Style. The style opens in the Style Properties editor.  
  4. Click the Style Layouts tab.  
  5. Click Edit Layout. A message indicating that the copy of the file created in the plugins folder will open for editing is displayed.  

  6. Click Yes.  

  7. The layout definition file opens for editing.  

  8. Add your custom code to achieve your customization objective.  

  9. Save the file.  

  10. Save your changes.

Interactivity with MicroStrategy Web is not enabled

  1. Launch the Web Customization Editor.  

  2. Click on MicroStrategy Web Configuration inside the Application Settings view to expand the hierarchical tree. The expanded list comprises the different settings that can be modified to perform customizations.  

  3. Click on Styles to expand the list of styles used in MicroStrategy Web.  

  4. Double-click the style (that uses the layout definition file you wish to edit) to display Style Properties.  

  5. Click the Style Layouts tab.  

  6. Click Edit Layout. A message indicating that the copy of the file created in the plugins folder will open for editing is displayed.  

  7. Click Yes.  

  8. The layout definition file opens for editing.  

  9. Add your custom code to achieve your customization objective.  

  10. Save your changes.
