Import Data from Twitter

Twitter can be a valuable resource to explore how your company's customers are engaging with your products and marketing campaigns. Use Workstation to search for tweets via your Twitter account and import that list of tweets into Workstation. You can only import tweets from the past seven days.

You must configure the OAuth parameters. You need the Client ID and Client Secret that Twitter provides when MicroStrategy Workstation is configured as a remote access application.

  1. Open a new or existing dashboard.
  2. To import data into a new dataset, click Add Data and choose New Data.
  3. or

    To add data to a dataset, click the drop-down arrow next to the dataset name in the Datasets panel and choose Edit Dataset. The Preview Dialog opens. Click Add a New Table.

    The Data Sources dialog opens.

  4. Click Twitter. At the prompts, sign into your Twitter account and allow MicroStrategy access to your tweets. The Import Data from Twitter dialog opens.
  5. If you want to search using a different Twitter account, click Sign Out and sign into the other Twitter account.
  6. You can use operators to create a more sophisticated search. Click Tip: use operators for a list of available search operators.
  7. Enter the number of tweets to import, up to a maximum of 5,000, in rows of latest tweets.
  8. Type the text to search for in Search for Tweets and click Search.
  9. Click Prepare Data to preview and modify your data before importing.
  10. Click Finish. The data is imported into a new dataset or updated in an existing dataset.
