Advanced Qualification pane: Custom expression

Custom expressions allow you to create filters using customized expressions. For example, you can create a filter using an ApplySimple function and you can create relationship filters.

The pane appears differently depending on which Option is selected. When the Option is set to Custom expression, the Custom expression box is displayed. This box allows you to create the filter qualification, as described below:

  • Drag objects from the Object Browser into the Custom expression box.

  • Type the custom expression in the Custom expression box.

  • Click an arithmetic operator on the operator bar to insert the operator into the metric formula. Click f(x) to access the Insert Function Wizard to add a function.

  • Click Validate to confirm that the expression is valid for use by the MicroStrategy engine. The validation status is also displayed along the bottom of the pane, shown as a green checkmark when the metric expression is valid or a red X when it is not.

  • Click Clear to delete the entire expression and start over.

Accessing the Advanced Qualification pane: Custom expression

  1. In the Filter Editor, select Add an Advanced qualification in the Filtering Options pane. The Advanced Qualification pane opens.

    By default, the Add an Advanced qualification option is disabled in the Filter Editor. You must activate the advanced qualification option to create a joint element list qualification.

  2. Select Custom expression from the Option drop-down list.
