Adding datasets to Grid/Graph placeholders

You can add a dataset report to a Grid/Graph placeholder (an empty Grid/Graph) by doing either of the following:

The data on the selected dataset report (either new or existing) is used to populate the Grid/Graph placeholder. Instructions to add datasets to placeholders are included in the topics listed above.

Using Grid/Graph placeholders saves time, and also allows you to create a document template containing Grid/Graph placeholders but no dataset reports. You can then use the template to create several different documents, each with specific dataset reports and Grid/Graphs populated by those datasets.

Formatting

When you add a dataset to a Grid/Graph placeholder, the formatting of the new Grid/Graph can be either:

  • Copied from the dataset report.

    • To continue with the template scenario above, each Grid/Graph could be formatted differently, depending on the formatting in the original reports.

  • Copied from the placeholder.

    • In the template scenario, all the Grid/Graphs could be formatted identically in the documents, regardless of the formatting on the original reports. To do this, the placeholders must be formatted. To format a Grid/Graph placeholder, populate it with data, format it, and then remove the data. The formatting is retained on the placeholder. To format the rows and columns of the placeholder, you edit the Grid/Graph placeholder and then format it.
