MicroStrategy ONE
Connecting to a data source
A data source contains the business data from which you intend to gain analytical insight. Once you connect to the metadata repository through Intelligence Server, your next step is to create a connection to the data source to which your project can connect. You connect to the data source by creating a database instance in MicroStrategy Developer.
Create a database instance using the procedures outlined in the Configuring and Connecting Intelligence Server chapter of the Installation and Configuration Help.
MicroStrategy includes an extension to Intelligence Server referred to as MultiSource Option. With this feature, you can connect a project to multiple data sources. This allows you to integrate all your information from various databases and other relational data sources into a single MicroStrategy project for reporting and analysis purpose. For information on connecting a project to multiple data sources, see Accessing multiple data sources in a project.

If you do not have the MultiSource Option, your projects can only connect to a single database instance.

MicroStrategy allows you to connect to your SAP BW, Microsoft Analysis Services, and Hyperion Essbase data sources. For information about connecting to these MDX cube sources, see the MDX Cube Reporting Help.
