MicroStrategy suggests using MicroStrategy ODBC driver for PostgreSQL wire protocol and the JDBC driver (com.microstrategy.jdbc.postgresql.PostgreSQLDriver) to achieve a more integrated and thorough support. This is because MicroStrategy offers a fully certified shipped driver from all aspects, including connectivity, functionality, security, and performance.

The following chart shows the throughput with different drivers. The PostgreSQL ODBC driver has the best cube publish performance as it has the highest throughput. The test is for a single cube (4 million rows) republish executed on the MicroStrategy 2021 Update 4 release using as 32 CPU, 244 GB memory Amazon Linux machine against PostgreSQL 14. The ODBC connection uses 3.x ODBC calls by default.

Prior to MicroStrategy 2021 Update 2, PostgreSQL JDBC had limitations in fetching large datasets (greater than 5 GB). This limitation has been addressed in the MicroStrategy 2021 Update 2 release.
