Filter Data Based on Business Attributes

Using a view filter based on business attributes, you can view a subset of report data that focuses on the business data you are interested in. Narrowing the focus of a report to the business data that is of interest to you enables another level of report analysis that can highlight business trends and figures.

The steps below show you how to create a view filter with an attribute qualification, as well as how to create the example scenario above.

You need the Web Use View Filter Editor privilege.

To create a view filter with an attribute qualification

  1. Log into a project in MicroStrategy Web.
  2. Run the report in Grid View.
  3. If the View Filter area is not displayed, from the Tools menu, select View Filter.
  4. In the View Filter area, click Add Condition.
  5. From the Filter On drop-down, select an attribute.
  6. Choose Qualify to set a specific value-based condition, or choose Select to choose attribute elements from a list.

    • If you choose Qualify, choose whether to filter on the attribute's description (DESC) or ID form. Then, select a comparison operator such as Greater than. Enter a value in the field on the right to finish defining the filter condition.

      • To compare the attribute to another attribute, click the Attributes icon Attributes icon. Then select another attribute to compare it to.
      • If you choose Qualify and are qualifying on a date-related attribute, you can either type the day in or select it from a calendar (if DHTML is enabled). Click the calendar icon next to the date field, then click on a date to select it.
    • If you choose Select, choose In List or Not in List to include or exclude items that appear in the Selected list. Then choose elements from the Available list and add them to the Selected list.

You can use the Search for field to search for a particular attribute element. See How to Use Efficient Search Syntax

  7. Click Apply icon Apply icon to complete the view filter qualification.
  8. If the Auto-Apply Changes checkbox is cleared, click Apply to apply the view filter to the report.
