How to Enable DHTML in MicroStrategy Web

Certain features in MicroStrategy Web are available only if DHTML is supported by your browser and enabled in MicroStrategy Web.

The following actions are available when DHTML is enabled:

  • Create Report Services documents. A Report Services document is used to combine multiple reports within a single, formatted display of presentation quality.
  • Automatically submit option selections in drop-downs without having to click Apply.
  • Move, copy, or rename reports, documents, folders, or other objects while browsing through folders.
  • Drag and drop objects on or off a grid report or Grid/Graph in a document.
  • Right-click objects in reports or folders to access quick menus.
  • Use Outline mode to create an indented grouping of related data on a grid report by organizing the data into a standard outline style.
  • Lock column and row headers.
  • Add shortcut metrics, such as percent-to-total or rank metrics, to a grid report. Shortcut metrics are a quick way to add new metrics to a report, based on the metrics in the report.
  • Open movable dialog boxes that allow you to use a dialog box interface to adjust various options and perform tasks in your report or document. If DHTML is disabled, option screens are displayed as panels that cannot be repositioned.

Most browsers fully support DHTML, including Internet Explorer 6 and higher, Netscape 7 and higher, and Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and higher. If your browser supports DHTML, DHTML is enabled in MicroStrategy Web by default. However, if you are unsure whether DHTML is enabled in Web, use the procedures below to enable DHTML and test DHTML-only features in Web.

To enable DHTML

  1. On the upper-right of any page, click your user name, and then select Preferences from the drop-down. By default, the General preferences page is displayed.
  2. From the Use Dynamic HTML drop-down, select Determine automatically. If you are using a browser that supports DHTML, DHTML is enabled in MicroStrategy Web.
  3. Click Apply.

To test whether DHTML is enabled

  1. Click the name of a report to execute it.
  2. From the Format menu, select Report Details Properties.
  • If a Report Options dialog box opens, DHTML is enabled.
  • If a Report Options panel opens, your browser does not support DHTML. If you are interested in using DHTML-only features in Web, contact your administrator to inquire about upgrading your browser.
