Step 1: Installing MicroStrategy Desktop


You are about to begin your journey to powerful data discovery! MicroStrategy Desktop is a powerful tool that lets you administer and control both projects and environments, providing tools for data discovery and visualization. The best part? You can do it all on your own.

Since your boss has recommended MicroStrategy Desktop, the first thing you need to do is download and install it. Already have Desktop installed? Continue to the next step!

How to Install Desktop on Windows

  1. Log on to the machine where you are installing MicroStrategy Desktop.
  2. Go to the download site and download MicroStrategy Desktop.

    This tutorial uses Desktop 2019.

  3. Right-click the zip file and choose Extract All to unzip the files.
  4. Find and run the DesktopSetup.exe file.
  5. A message appears asking if you want to allow MicroStrategy Desktop application to make changes to the computer. Click Yes. The Install Shield wizard starts.
  6. Click Show Advanced to:
    • Change the default install location
    • Create a desktop shortcut
    • Create a start menu shortcut
  7. Read the license agreement and select I accept the terms.
  8. Click Install.
  9. Close the window when the installation is complete.

How to Install Desktop on macOS

  1. Log on to the machine where you are installing MicroStrategy Desktop.
  2. Go to the download site and download MicroStrategy Desktop.
  3. Run the application.
  4. Read the license agreement and click Agree.
  5. Drag MicroStrategy Desktop to your Applications folder.
  6. Close the window when the installation is complete.

Now that you have installed Desktop, you can start using it to answer some pressing questions. You can access existing applications, import data, and metadata—as well as collaborate and share dossiers and documents with colleagues.
