MicroStrategy ONE

Import Data from Google Analytics

You can import web site statistics data from your Google Analytics account into MicroStrategy Workstation. Use any of the prebuilt queries in MicroStrategy Workstation as a starting point for your own query and then modify it to import your data. You can also create your own query by typing it directly into MicroStrategy Workstation or build it with the Google Analytics Query Explorer tool.

You must configure the OAuth parameters. You need the Client ID and Client Secret that Google Analytics provides when MicroStrategy Workstation is configured as a remote access application.

Import Data from Google Analytics

  1. Open a new or existing dashboard.
  2. To import data into a new dataset, click Add Data and choose New Data.
  3. Click Google Analytics. At the prompts, sign into your Google account and allow MicroStrategy to access your Google Analytics data.
  4. Next to Select your Account, Web Property, and Profile, click Edit.
  5. Select your Google Analytics account from the Account drop-down.
  6. Select the web property that contains the data to import from the Web Property drop-down. The web property is the set of web pages or applications on which your Google Analytics tracking code is installed.
  7. Select the Google Analytics profile to use for importing data from the Profile drop-down. The profile (that is, view) determines which subset of data from the web property can be imported.
  8. Select Custom Range from the Data Range drop-down list and enter or select the corresponding dates in the From and To fields. You can also enter a relative date in an input supported by Google Analytics API (for example, today, yesterday, or NdaysAgo, where N is positive number).
  9. Select Pick a Report to import data using a prebuilt query.
  10. Browse to and select the report in the Files column that you want to use as a starting point. Then you can define additional options, such as filtering and sorting, for importing your data.
  11. Hover over the report and click Edit . The Write your own query option is selected and the query that represents the report appears.
  12. Edit the query by typing directly in the pane.
  13. Edit the Account, Web Property, Profile, and Date Range options for the query and click Update Query. The query updates to reflect your selections.
  14. If you select one of the MicroStrategy-provided date ranges in Select Date Range, your query contains text such as dynamic-date={Last 3 months}. This MicroStrategy-specific text is replaced with the appropriate Google Analytics query syntax when you import the data.

  15. Click Prepare Data to preview and modify your data before importing.
  16. Click Finish.
