Format a Map Visualization with Markers

There are several options for formatting a map visualization that displays image or bubble markers.

  1. Click on the map visualization you want to format. If necessary, you can select a specific object for formatting.
  2. Right-click and choose Format.

If you selected a specific object in the visualization, a pop-up menu displays the appropriate formatting options for that object. In addition, the Format panel automatically updates the first drop-down list with the area of the visualization you are formatting and the corresponding format options appear.

  3. Select the appropriate options to format the visualization. See Format Panel for Map Visualizations for more information about the options on the Format panel.
  4. In the Format panel, select Map Options from the first drop-down list.
  5. In the Zoom behavior drop-down list, select options for zoom behavior when selecting locations on the map.

Select Static to keep a static level of magnification. When this option is selected, you can also check the Remember zoom level checkbox to maintain the current level of magnification.

    or

Select Dynamic to zoom in on and refit the contents of the visualization.

  6. In the Type drop-down list, select Marker or Bubble to display a map with image or bubble markers.
  7. You can cluster a large number of map markers together to form a circle. In the Clustering drop-down list, select options for clustering map markers.

Select On to cluster map markers into a circle.

    or

Select Pie to cluster map markers in a pie format. This clusters the image markers and displays each attribute as a pie slice on the outside of a circle. This option is not available for bubble markers.

    or

Select Off to display markers without clustering.

  8. Select the More Options link at the bottom of the Format panel to open the More Options Dialog and specify additional formatting options for displaying visualization data.
  9. You can color map markers in the visualization, based on the value of a metric, by defining a threshold on the metric used to display the map markers. See Create a Threshold on a Metric Using the Quick Thresholds Editor for more information.

  10. You can apply general formatting options used for all types of visualizations, such as renaming attributes or metrics, choosing whether to display a visualization's title bar, etc. See Format Dashboards and Visualizations for more information.
