Filtering report data in a view filter

If you have a report with a view filter, you can filter the report results by adding a filter qualification using the view filter. When you create this kind of filter on a report, the report is not re-executed against your data warehouse.

The procedures below describe how to add or remove a filter qualification from a view filter in a report.

Prerequisite

To use view filters, you must own the MicroStrategy OLAP Services product.

To add a qualification in a view filter

  1. Run the desired report. (For steps to run a report, see Running a report.)

  2. Expand the View filter pane above the report.

If the View filter pane is not displayed, from the View menu, select View Filter.

  3. Click New. The three components of a view filter appears.

  4. Click Field, which is the first component of a view filter. Then select an attribute, metric, or other report object that you want to filter the report results for. For example, if you want to filter the list of all employees in a report so that only five specific employees are listed, select the Employee attribute.

  5. Click Operator, which is the second component of a view filter. Then select the appropriate operator as part of your filter. Using the example above, you would select In List.

  6. Click Value, which is the last component of a view filter. Then select the value(s) to finish your filter qualification. Using the example above, you would select the five employees whose data you want to see on the report.

  7. Click Apply in the View filter pane. The report is recalculated and displayed to reflect your newly added filtering conditions.

  8. To save your changes, click Save and Close.

You can add additional filter qualifications to this report, and thus create more complex filtering, by repeating the steps above.

To remove a qualification in a view filter

  1. Run the desired report. (For steps to run a report, see Running a report.)

  2. Expand the View filter pane.

If the View filter pane is not displayed, from the View menu, select View Filter.

  3. Click Clear on the shaded area at the top of the View filter pane. The current qualification is deleted.
