MicroStrategy ONE

Developer Preferences: Developer category, Advanced preferences

Advanced preferences are for project designers who create objects in MicroStrategy Developer, and administrators who are troubleshooting issues. You can determine how MicroStrategy Developer behaves when you create new schema objects in a project, and you can have the Diagnostics menu appear in MicroStrategy Developer. Schema objects include attributes, facts, and hierarchies.

From the Developer category on the left, you can specify the following Advanced preferences:

  • Load dependent editor dialogs when creating new schema objects: By default, when you click New and select a new schema object to create in a project, MicroStrategy displays the object's editor, followed by one or more additional object definition dialogs. For example, if you choose to create a new fact, the Fact Editor opens, and the Fact Expression dialog box also opens. The user must define the new fact's expression first and close the Fact Expression dialog before the Fact Editor can be used. The last object definition dialog that opens (usually an object expression definition dialog box) must be completed first, before the user can then access any underlying dialogs such as the object's editor.

MicroStrategy Developer performs in the following ways, depending on whether you select or clear this option:

  • If you select this option, MicroStrategy Developer performs as described above. All dialogs required for creation of that object type are automatically displayed at the same time, and the user defines the new object by completing each dialog in the order presented. Once each dialog is completed and closed, the next underlying dialog becomes available. This option provides a logical workflow to creating any new object. All dialogs that are presented are required to be completed before a new schema object can be saved.

  • If you clear this option, MicroStrategy Developer displays only the object's editor. For example, if you choose to create a new attribute, only the Attribute Editor opens. The additional dialogs required for defining the attribute's expressions and forms do not automatically open. The user can click New in the Attribute Editor and display those additional dialog boxes to define the attribute's expressions and forms. This option provides some flexibility to the user so the schema object can be defined in a less structured workflow. However, all dialogs that are automatically presented when this option is selected are required to be completed before a new schema object can be saved.

  • Show Diagnostics menu option: The Diagnostics menu is designed for administrative-level users who need to access diagnostic logs to troubleshoot MicroStrategy software issues. Select whether to show or hide this option on the menu.
