Creating custom group attribute qualifications

About custom group attribute qualifications

Attribute qualifications allow you to specify the condition that the attribute elements must satisfy to be included in the custom group element. For example, you can create a qualification on the attribute Month so that the element displays only months beginning with the letter J.

Attribute qualifications in custom groups are the same as attribute qualifications in filters.

Types of attribute qualifications

You can create the following types of attribute qualifications:

  • Attribute element list qualification allows you to qualify on a list of attribute elements. For example, an attribute element list qualification on a Year attribute might return data only for the elements 2022 and 2023.

  • Attribute form qualification allows you to qualify on an attribute form. For example, you can use an attribute form qualification for the form Customer Last Name, to return data only for those customers whose last names start with the letter H.

  • Dynamic dates are fixed offsets of the current date. For more information, see Using dynamic dates in custom group attribute qualifications.

  • Imported filter elements allows lists of data from existing files to be imported into the qualification definition. You can import element values into the Custom Group Editor from sources other than MicroStrategy, if you choose the attribute qualifying operator as In list or Not in list. To import element values into a qualification, they should be stored in an Excel file or a text file.

  • Attribute-to-attribute qualification allows you to qualify on data based on the comparison of attributes. For example, you can create an attribute-to-attribute qualification that returns data only for orders that were shipped within a week of their order date, by comparing the Order date with the Shipped date.

You can also create a Prompted attribute qualifications, which allows you to dynamically modify the definition of the custom group at report run time.

For more information and examples of attribute qualifications in general, and specifically attribute element qualifications and attribute form qualifications, see the Basic Reporting Help. For more information and examples of dynamic dates, imported filter elements, and attribute-to-attribute qualifications, see the Advanced Filters chapter of the Advanced Reporting Help.
