What's New in MicroStrategy 10.11

MicroStrategy Library

MicroStrategy Library is an interactive application of the MicroStrategy Business Intelligence platform that lets business users harness the analytical power of MicroStrategy in a simple, clean and modern user interface. For more information, see MicroStrategy Library Online Help.

  • Single Sign-on between Library and Workstation: Users can now seamlessly navigate from Workstation and MicroStrategy Web to MicroStrategy Library without having to re-authenticate. Click here for more information.
  • Recommended Dossiers: In MicroStrategy Library, users can see other dossiers that are similar to those in your library. Click here for more information.
  • Support for Prompted Datasets: When a user comes across a prompt in a dossier, they will see the prompt choice from the original dataset. They can then make their own selection and will not be prompted again when opening the same dossier later. They can use Re-prompt to make different selections.
  • View Dossiers on Handheld iOS Devices: Users can now view dossiers on iPhones.
  • Export Dossier Filter Summary: When exporting a dossier from MicroStrategy Library to PDF, you can choose to export the filter summary so you can see what filters have been applied to your dossier.

MicroStrategy Workstation

MicroStrategy Workstation is a unified product that radically simplifies enterprise analytics by bringing all key workflows into a single user experience. Workstation allows enterprise BI developers and administrators to build and administer sophisticated enterprise and mobile analytics applications at a fraction of the effort it traditionally takes.   • Share Multiple Dossiers or Documents: Share up to 100 dossiers or documents, all at once. See How to Share Dossiers and How to Share Documents for more information.
  • Single Sign-on between Workstation and Library: Users can now seamlessly navigate from Workstation to MicroStrategy Library without having to re-authenticate.
  • Recommended Dossiers: In MicroStrategy Workstation, users can see other dossiers that are similar to those in their library.

MicroStrategy Desktop

MicroStrategy Desktop provides an enhanced data discovery experience that allows users to explore data with built-in templates, making it easy to quickly build compelling analytical books of visualizations called dossiers.

Installation and Upgrade

  • Improved welcome page: A new landing page in the Windows Express Install provides easy access to different MicroStrategy products.
  • Automatic Activation: License Manager silent mode allows the user to automate the activation process when the machine has internet access. For detailed instructions please contact MicroStrategy Tech Support.

    Enhanced Password Hashing for Standard Authentication: When installing or upgrading to MicroStrategy 10.11 a stronger hash algorithm will be used to improve security. Fresh installations will use the new algorithm and hashing options by default. For customers upgrading to 10.11, the new algorithm will be applied to existing user passwords at their next log in. Administrators should see, in the System Administration Guide for more information.

MicroStrategy on Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • System Monitors: The environment details tab on your MicroStrategy on AWS home page now provides monitoring of system resources, such as CPU and Memory usage, as well as monitoring of installed MicroStrategy services.   • Service Management: You now have the option to start, stop, and restart installed MicroStrategy services from the MicroStrategy on AWS home page. For more information, see How to Start, Stop, or Restart Services in the MicroStrategy on AWS help.

Microsoft SQL Server 2017: Certified as a metadata, warehouse, and statistics platform for Analytics.

A Simba JDBC driver for connecting MicroStrategy and Cassandra is now available.

Dossier Authoring

  • The Dark Theme for dossiers is now deprecated. Existing dossiers created with the Dark Theme, in version 10.8 or earlier, continue to look the same after upgrading to 10.11. However, if you switch to the Light Theme in version 10.11, you can no longer switch back to the Dark Theme.
  • Load Chapters on Demand: Use this option to improve load time when opening dossiers that contain a large amount of data. Select the Load chapters on demand checkbox on the Dossier Properties dialog to load chapters only when they are selected.
  • New Visualization Types: Create histogram, waterfall chart, box plot, and geospatial service visualizations in dossiers.
  • Outline Mode: Outline mode can now be enabled on a Dossier. Find this new setting in the Formatting panel of your dossier authoring interface.
  • Support for Prompted Datasets: Users can now use prompted datasets and share that prompted content to Libraries.
  • Custom Sorting: Create custom sorting in hierarchy reports.
  • Paused Dossier Execution: If you are working with large datasets when designing your dossier, these actions can take time. You can pause the dossier execution at any time and perform multiple edits without having to wait for your visualizations to refresh after every action. Click here for more information.

Usher Security

Usher Badge

  • Users can now use their Usher Badge to unlock and log in to a Mac device when connected via USB.

Network Manager

  • In this release, Network Manager offers the option to accept contents which will be displayed in Usher App in different languages. Click here for more information.
  • Customers can enable and disable the use of QR codes in recovery emails and can send badge invitations via SMS. Click here for more information.
  • Usher can import user records from multiple directory gateways by setting an order of import to reduce data conflicts and duplication. Click here for more information.
  • Canadian customers can now receive SMS messages sent in short codes from Usher. Click here for more information.

MicroStrategy Intelligence Server

  • Parallel execution of derived metrics, subtotals, and multi-pass queries against MTDI cubes is now supported providing improved performance when querying in-memory cubes. For more information, see Parallel Queries in the System Administration Guide.
  • MicroStrategy now supports Kerberos Constrained Delegation to improve overall security for service communications. Click here for more information on Kerberos authentication.
  • Security settings for the new Restful API Infrastructure can now be configured via the Server Configuration Wizard.
  • The Smartheap memory manager has been upgraded to version 11.2 improving the performance and stability of Intelligence Server.
