  • Ability to navigate through the contents of your environment using an intuitive interface.
  • Access to resources like Getting Started how-to videos and the MicroStrategy Community.
  • Access to navigate your Library within Desktop whenever connected to an environment.

Installation and Upgrade

MicroStrategy on Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • MicroStrategy on AWS, Enterprise Edition, can now be deployed in Frankfurt.

  • Customers will receive regular reminders via the MicroStrategy on AWS console if their trial environment will expire soon.

When new features are added, we need to make changes to the underlying AWS automation infrastructure that we use to orchestrate the processes, and these notifications indicate when these changes are required. We always recommend installing these updates, particularly because they do not modify any MicroStrategy related items or configurations.

MicroStrategy Web

Dossier Authoring

  • Dashboards are now dossiers:

With MicroStrategy 10.9, we wanted to make it easier to build dashboards for the widest audience of end users. To do this, we’ve added some key new capabilities that make it easier to author dashboards, read and interact with dashboards without any training, and collaborate on dashboards. In fact, we think that the additions we’ve made to dashboards are so significant that they now go well beyond dashboards; they are now interactive, social stories. We call these interactive, social stories "dossiers."

    • All existing Visual Insight dashboards automatically become dossiers starting in 10.9.

    • All of the existing Visual Insight dashboard authoring functionality continues in the updated dossier authoring experience in MicroStrategy Web.

    • In these dossiers, sheets are now referred to as chapters, and panels are pages.
  • Improved authoring experience: The updated authoring interface including new positioning of various panels and new icons.

  • Table of Contents (ToC): A new Contents panel is the primary method of navigation, consisting of chapters and pages instead of the tabbed approach with sheets and panels. You can toggle between tab view and ToC view.
  • Cover pages: You can now apply a cover page to a dossier to customize it for sharing with others.
  • Visualizations as filters: Now use visualizations like maps and graphs for highly contextual and intuitive filters, but keep them hidden from view on your dashboard. You can edit these filters from the Filter panel.

  • Select targets more easily: The process of selecting filter targets is more intuitive and user-friendly.

  • Advanced Filter Editor: The new Advanced Filter Editor allows more advanced types of filtering for visualizations and derived metrics. You can define one or more qualifications (e.g., an attribute element contains abc), control the operator between conditions (e.g., OR, AND NOT, OR NOT), group qualifications, define relationships between attributes, and apply qualifications at the visualization or dataset level.

A derived metric with advanced filtering is also know as a conditional metric.

  • Responsive design: Group elements together for control of layout on different screen sizes and preview the layout within the interface by using the “Responsive Preview.”

  • Page to page linking (with context): Create links between chapters and pages for guided analysis or custom workflows.
  • Custom visualizations included in the Visualization Gallery: A variety of custom visualizations are available to use directly from Editor mode when creating visualizations in your dossiers.
  • Sharing: Sharing dossiers is easier than ever before. Dossier consumers and authors can easily share and distribute content with a few clicks. From the Library, a dossier provides the end user with multiple methods for sharing via link, .mstr file, PDF, and inviting users right from the application.
  • Certify Dossiers and Documents: Users with Certify privilege can certify a document or a dossier. This helps maintain a single version of truth, while providing flexibility of authoring content to multiple users. To the end users it indicates that the content has been approved by an expert with authority.

  • Hierarchy Reporting (Early Adopter feature):

    • Sort order from source: If you are using an MDX database, you can change the sort order to the one used by the database.

    • Dynamic filtering: You can define filters so that new elements in a hierarchy automatically appear in your report.

    • Pass-through MDX: You can create derived metrics and calculated members using custom MDX expressions.

    • Improved performance: Large hierarchies added to the filter panel display faster.
  • Query View: Allows users to see the SQL/CSI queries being used to process a visualization in a dossier. For more information, see How to Display the Query View for a Visualization.
  • Documentation, RScript examples, and installation files for the MicroStrategy R Integration Pack have moved from CodePlex to GitHub.
  • The Dark Theme for dossiers is now deprecated. Existing dossiers created with the Dark Theme, in version 10.8 or earlier, continue to look the same after upgrading to 10.10. However, if you switch to the Light Theme in version 10.10, you can no longer switch back to the Dark Theme.

MicroStrategy SDK

For a summary of changes to the MicroStrategy SDK from a previous version to the next, see MicroStrategy SDK What's New.

Usher Security

Usher Badge

  • Multi-user pairing in a browser is now supported for all SAML and OIDC applications.

  • Usher now supports localization of all externally-facing Usher UI for Usher Badge. Currently supported languages include Danish, Spanish (ES), French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese (BR), Swedish, Chinese (Simplified), and Chinese (Traditional).

Network Manager

  • Usher introduces a new Admin role to further expand separation of duties within Network Manager. The new Master Administrator role can be associated with an Administrator's badge to create a core group of "most trusted" Admins and ensure that they are not accidentally deleted, leaving the Usher Network without someone who can recover the network.

  • SMS badge distribution is now supported for both CSV files and manual record entry. This provides a stronger security mechanism for the protection of users in your Usher Network.

Usher Professional

MicroStrategy Intelligence Server

  • Subset reports can now have result set caching options set at the report level. For more information, see Result cache settings at the report level.
  • Security settings for the new Restful API Infrastructure can now be configured via the Server Configuration Wizard.
  • The HTML container feature can now be disabled at both the Server and Client levels to mitigate potential security issues exposed by HTML containers.
  • Improvements have been made to Data Import when some columns are selected as Do Not Import. The selected tables are no longer retrieved from the data warehouse. Changes in the SQL view if these data imports should be expected. For an example of how the SQL will change, see Expected Behavioral Changes.

Enterprise Manager

  • You can now use Enterprise Manager to audit your license usage making it easier to stay compliant with your MicroStrategy contract.
